Video: Focal Backgrounds

I know, focal backgrounds seems like a bit of an oxymoron, but that’s exactly the technique I want to share with you today, along with a video!

For this technique, I take an image that was meant to be a focal point and transform it into a focal background. It’s not quite the star of the show, but it’s a little more than a background – thus, a focal background! Just humor me. ;)

I knew I wanted to use the Color Layering Floral Bouquet stamp set, but I wanted to use it in an unintended way. The second part of the top of the bouquet, the leaves, looked so pretty, so I decided to use them.

When deciding on a sentiment stamp, I went with the  With Deepest Sympathy stamp. These cards are no fun to make in the moment, and the image paired well with the sentiment.

After making the first card, I got a little carried away and decided to make a whole matching, yet alternating, card set.

clare-prezzia-with-sympathy-card1I really wanted the strips of cardstock on the panel to match the embossed look exactly, so I embossed strips of cardstock in each color, respectively. The kraft was a little tricky, since the Versamark would also darken the kraft, so I just sprayed it with adhesive, and then added my clear embossing powder.

Each card was topped off with some matching pearls, and that made the set!

I hope you enjoyed my little “technique” and I hope you have a great day! Thanks for stopping in!
