So… are you ready for your first look? Our October kit features one of our most popular stamp lines – Color Layering! We’ve applied the technique to a beautiful flower, perfect for the holidays – poinsettias! Our creative team member Jayne is here to share our first card sample. Take it away, Jayne!
I am so happy to be sharing this holiday card that I created with the first My Monthly Hero kit for October 2015. As soon as I inked up my first layered poinsettia using the collection of three red inks included in the kit, I knew that I wanted to create a collection of fussy cut and dimensional poinsettias.
First, I created a red card base using a sheet of cardstock from the Blush Mix Layering papers pack. I love that one side of the paper is white so that I am able to easily write or stamp a sentiment inside the card. For added interest, I stamped a panel of red cardstock with the CG685 Hand Drawn Snowflakes Bold Prints background stamp using AF249 Unicorn Pigment Ink Pad ink. Using dark green ink, I stamped the “Happy Holidays” sentiment, which is included in the monthly kit, onto a piece of white, scalloped paper and then added it to the snowflake stamped panel. I wrapped the panel with vintage seam binding and then adhered the panel to my card with foam adhesive.
To create a collection of poinsettias, I stamped both the large and small poinsettia images included in the monthly kit multiple times. I fussy cut all of the images and then layered the smaller flowers over the larger flowers with foam adhesive. I love how closely these dimensional blooms resemble real poinsettias! After easily adhering each flower with an adhesive dot, I stamped, cut, and added the leaves. To finish each blossom, I embellished the floral centers with a pearl from a pack of CH212 Foliage Mixed Accents.
We mentioned at the start of this post that you’d have a chance to win the kit before you can buy it. Just leave a comment on this (and every) Countdown to Creativity post! We’ll randomly draw one lucky winner from all of the comments left across all countdown posts, and announce the winner first thing Monday morning, before the kit launches at 12pm EST. The more you comment, the more chances to win!
We hope you enjoy our Countdown to Creativity over the next several days, and love our new kit as much as we do!
