Little Animals by Jayne Nelson for Hero Arts

Hello, Today a I’m sharing some matchbox-style cards that I made using some of my favorite wooden stamps from the new catalog – A6153 Little Hippo, A6152 Little Turtle and A6155 Little Whale. They are small, delightful, and they remind me of animal crackers! There are also A6151 Little Pig and A6154 Little Sheep stamps that are equally adorable. Best of all, there is a matching set of dies for these cute little critters!

Making a matchbox-style card is so easy! For my cards, I cut 4 1/2 inch by 5 1/2 inch (perfect for a gift card) pieces of kraft layering paper. I scored two lines along each of the four edges, at one-half inch and at one inch. Then, I trimmed the excess paper from each corner, leaving small tabs to join the sides, and folded and glued each of the four side panels. To complete the box, I wrapped each tray with a sleeve of kraft paper.

To create fun, paper wrapping for my box cards, I started by applying subtle watercolor washes to strips of white cardstock. Then, I repeatedly stamped rows of the Little Animal stamps across each strip. I used the new Hero Arts Bold Inks to create bold, vibrant, and happy images! Next, I used the new S6144 Wave Pattern Background stamp to create wonderful, tone-on-tone backgrounds for the interior back panels of each box. The pattern is exciting and a perfect foundation for a surprise message reveal! I heat embossed white sentiments from the new CL954 Many Everyday Messages set onto several colors of layering paper. This must-have message set includes 29 versatile, all-occasion sentiments that are perfectly sized for tags and paper strips! I stamped additional animal images, that I die cut using the DI170 Little Animal Frame Cuts, for the interior message and exterior tags. For extra fun, I added a few spots to some of the animals with my eraser tip and Bold Ink. I finished each matchbox-style card with a bow, a few gems, and a small clothespin.

I hope that you love these Little Animal stamps and the Many Everyday Messages set as much as I do! I plan to use them to create valentines, baby cards and birthday greetings too … just to name a few!

Thanks Jayne, we love your boxes so much!
