Fall Colors for Summer Cards

When I was blessed with the opportunity to select a custom set of ink colors that I would use with the Color Layering Fall Trees set, I knew immediately that I would choose inks that reflected the changing colors of autumn leaves – Lemon Yellow, Tangerine, Strawberry, and Pumpkin Pie. However, what I love most about these warm colors is that the coordinated inks work beautifully for creating amazing designs for any season and with any stamps.

So, today I’m sharing a card set that I made using the Fall Colors ink pack with a fun selection of stamps and supplies. I started by stenciling three white cards with the Floral Pattern Stencil using Lemon Yellow, Tangerine, and Strawberry inks. By simply securing the card and stencil to my work surface, it was very easy to apply the ink through the stencil with a sponge dauber. I adore the modern look of these single color, graphic backgrounds – especially the gorgeous Strawberry red!

To embellish each card, I stamped a pair of butterflies from the Color Layering Butterflies set with the same Fall Colors inks and then cut out each image with the Color Layering Butterflies Frame Cuts. I glued the butterflies to white tags, stamped a sentiment from the Beach set with Pumpkin Pie ink along the lower tag edges, and then added a hole reinforcer that I colored with Pumpkin Pie ink to the top of each tag. For a bit of sparkle, I applied narrow strips of double-sided tape above the sentiments and covered them with fine, white glitter.

Next, I nestled a pair of white embossed, leafy branches from the You're So Lovely floral set behind the wings of each butterfly. I embossed the branches on vellum and then die cut them with the matching You're So Lovely Frame Cuts. The curved branches add softness to the bold design. Then, I added a panel of vellum behind the tags and adhered the tags to the card fronts with foam adhesive. I finished the cards by tying a simple, twine cord through each tag and adding a trio of small gems.
